Main Event: Hi Dale! You’ve been a part of Main Event Fitness from the beginning  (literally our first member) can you describe why you got involved, and the changes you’ve seen in that time?

Dale Wright: Firstly I’d like to say thanks for having me as member of the month!! I understand this isn’t a competition of sorts, but if it was write ups about me every month, people would get upset.

I got involved to give me an opportunity to cross train in Muay Thai and boxing to complement my karate, which I have trained in for around 10 years. I got back from living overseas, fat as a house, and needed a way to shed the kegs for my karate, and Main Event Fitness was ideal for that.

ME: With so many options around for you in Geelong to cross train, what has kept you at Main Event Fitness?

DW: Probably the fact I’m the number 1 ticket holder! I couldn’t ever give that up….but more importantly, the culture of the gym. Regardless of whichever class I walk into, trainer taking the class or person I end up partnering with, there is a friendly family like vibe throughout the gym. I have been to some gyms in my time, but this one is definitely the best in that aspect.

ME: As a fight gym and overall fitness establishment we see our fair share of injuries, you’ve had some in your time, tell us what you’ve found here that has assisted you in your fitness journey?

DW: Yeah, well about 10 years ago, I had a pretty brutal accident, I broke my back and completely shattered a couple of my vertebrae. I was in hospital for months, where some doctors thought I may never walk again. I pushed hard through rehab, and with each mental and physical step I made I proved them all wrong!

I found my karate wasn’t tailored enough, being a very traditional style of martial arts, so along with Main Event Fitness, and the team there, we tailored programs to build up my strength and endurance again. 2 years ago I competed in the State Championships in karate and won silver. Without Main Event and the team here it definitely wouldn’t have been possible.

ME: What an inspiring story!? Any last words for anyone out there looking to come join?

DW: For sure, look, everyone has their story or reason to get into shape. It may not be future HBO mini-series, with Zac Efron touted as the lead, epic like my story… But each one is still a reason to come down to Main Event and give them their own happy ending!!

As a top philosopher and ninja once said “Don’t Be Scared Homies!!”
