Member of the Month – June 2018
Meet our member of the month for June, Sai!
Sai is one of our Muay Thai regulars and absolutely loves the sport! When you don’t see her working out at the gym, she’s likely reading novels, at the movies or with friends. Sai’s favourite things are Muay Thai, travelling, food and her cat.
When did you start at the ETC and why?
I started at ETC around 2 years ago. After finding myself in a few bad situations, a friend suggested I take a self-defence class. I really enjoyed the class and asked what was a sport I could take up that incorporated self-defence as well as fitness. I started at Main Event a few months before the merge with ETC, and came with them because of the variety of classes and gym facilities ETC offered.
What did you love about Muay Thai when you started?
The environment! Everyone is friendly, encoring and supportive. It’s challenging, yet every class gives a feeling of accomplishment. And I’ll be honest, it is just plain fun to punch and kick the stuffing out of some pads or a bag.
What do you find most challenging about Muay Thai?
Cardio! Muay Thai requires the use of so much movement and so many limbs. It can take a huge amount of energy.
You have recently ventured into HIIT training, what do you enjoy about it?
I like that every class is different, you don’t ever get bored with the exercises and they are challenging. Tay also gives the perfect amount of encouragement vs push. It’s also been a great introduction into incorporating weights into my training.
June has just hit us, what do you find most difficult about training during Winter?
I really struggle with the cold air when you work out. It takes longer to warm up, and your lungs and muscles seem to have to work extra hard. But I’ve been making good use of the sauna to offset this. LOL!
Three words to describe ETC…
Fun, Challenging, family
